Here’s to a New Year of meditation.

It’s Christmas morning. I’ve been up since 4 a.m. There’s a gale warning in effect and the strong winds have kept me up.


By 7:00 a.m. I’ve cared for my dogs, given Old Man Bubba (my elderly dog) an 8 minute massage, made breakfast for my family, had my tea, ate part of my own breakfast, stared out the window for a while, played Mario Kart on my kid’s video game system, and meditated.


Oh. And I checked Facebook, Instagram, my work email, and personal email, about 100 times.

The sun is rising over the mountain now. The wind is howling and whistling a shrill tune as it passes through links of wire fencing outside.


A Carolina Chickadee was the first bird I noticed at the feeders this morning. Dawn had barely cracked a ray on the dark horizon.

The past few days have been hectic, as they are for most American families across the nation.

I want to spend less time checking social media and email this year. It’s a total time-suck. I came up with the idea to replace checking Facebook, IG, and email, with meditation. So this was day one.

I’m not sure how it went, but I did get a short three-minute meditation in!

Baby steps.
